Silent

An ink drawing built entirely from hatching and cross-hatching. The figure sits in heavy stillness, surrounded by architectural forms that press in from all sides.

01

Process

Started with a pencil sketch, then worked entirely in ink, using pens ranging from 0.7 to 0.05mm to build shading and linework. The background architecture is intentionally distorted. Perspective shifts, forms flatten into geometric shapes, and the umbrella floats unanchored. Nothing quite sits where it should. A white pen was used at the end to pull out hair detail against the dark values.

02

Exploration

Before starting the final piece, I sketched out different compositions in ink, testing the figure's angle and posture, and exploring how to arrange the background elements to carry the mood I was after.

03

Final Piece

The final piece was intended to feel still, heavy, and slightly unresolved. Through dense shadows, quiet composition, and unfinished elements, I explored the lingering tension between what is complete and what remains unfinished.
