Process

I built the drawing in layers, starting with the skull, then moving into the figure, background, and final refinements. I used mechanical pencil and graphite shading, blending with tissue to create soft transitions and a smooth, dreamlike texture.

  1. Initial Sketch

  1. Building contrast in the skul

  1. Rendering the figure and values

Details

I used small technical choices throughout the drawing to control texture, contrast, and atmosphere. Each detail was built slowly with pencil pressure, tissue blending, and eraser highlights.

  1. Skull and botanical details

Used sharper pencil pressure for the skull structure, then held the pencil more vertically to draw thin plant stems and delicate line details.

  1. Hair highlight

Lifted highlights with the edge of an eraser, then refined the hair strands with pencil.

Used tissue blending to create smooth texture.
